was routed around the group.
Treasurer’s report:
Carol reported that we received bequests in memory of Rose Hulet and
Louise Mikelsen Barker. Carol will
send thank you notes to the donors and families.
Carol submitted amended Treasurer’s reports for last month with the
elimination of a duplication that had no bearing on the totals.
Last month we made the major capital improvement of adding air
conditioning to the Library. Carol
also reported that the bookstore income is up dramatically, due in part to the
new lighting, arrangement and prices.
Branch Manager’s report:
Thanks!
– For the air conditioning. The staff loves it & patrons notice and stay
longer.

effort
to continue good youth programming.
Magazine
shelving:
Leif can move the shelving at no cost to us. He can make an end piece that won’t match exactly but will
be close.
Next
year’s capitol projects:
budget meeting Wednesday morning/afternoon. I have asked for replacement of the “holds shelf”
shelving {because our holds are growing} & a CD display spinner because our
collection keeps expanding..[13” base]
Painting
– “It’s not my favorite color.” But hang in there ‘cause we aren’t
done yet!
CD donation: As part of the settlement for overpricing KRL received thousands of CD’s. Many, however, were duplicates and not at all popular so they have donated those not wanted to the Friends groups for sale. We have received over 70.
Phil Pacquette agreed to examine the roof of the Library for any
potential damage that may have resulted from the youths reported on the roof.
Bookstore report: The next special sale will move to a date other than November 6 due to
a conflict. Some additional minor
re-arrangement of books will be made to fine-tune the shelves.
Old Business: Dee confirmed that Leif would be able to move the magazine rack.
Julie said that she has not yet
called a meeting to discuss lessons learned from the Salmon Bake.
Peggy was away and not able to report on plastic containers for canopy
storage. Carol had no news on
Washington Entity Pool insurance. Julie
was please to report that Joe and Margaret were willing candidates for Vice
President. Rich reported that the
trunk final finishing was complete. Bob was unable to attend, the furnace maintenance contract will be
included with an A/C maintenance contract.
It was reported that the Water Dist. Is unable to service the outside
faucet, but Carol will have her plumber
look at the faucet and make repairs if reasonable.
Carol had procured all the hosing for soaking the gardens.
Carol has also procured cork squares for the display case.
Julie has contacted Emily Kahn of the Garden Club, who referred
her to Rebecca as the point of contact.
The Garden Club may make stepping stones as a children’s project.
The curbing is still an issue. If
these two actions are not completed within a month or so, we may pursue them
ourselves.
We then turned to the election of Vice President.
As noted Joe and Margaret Guariz volunteered to fill this role.
Their election was unanimous!
A motion was made and carried to move the display board to the back of
the bookshelves facing toward the meeting room and to mount the screen in place
of the display. Joe agreed to investigate alternatives to the existing display board.
Julie will contact Cheryl
McCulloch to determine who may have donated the existing display to the
Library to insure proper disposition. Carol
mentioned that we would have a booth at the 8/28 Street Fair for selling raffle
tickets. Rich offered to set-up the Book Sale sign at Colchester and
Mile Hill Rd.
New Business: The group discussed the memorial donations and agreed that these would
be appropriate to use toward the cost of the air conditioning and suggested that
we include that specifically in the thank you notes as how we planned to use the
money.
Next meeting: The next meeting will be held on Wednesday September 22.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.
Respectfully submitted,
John Winslow, Secretary
