The mail included
an East Bremerton FOL newsletter, KRL thank you for Summer Reads donation, and a
Washington Library Asso. Workshop announcement. No action necessary.
Treasurer’s report:
Carol reported that the Family Inn had a Library donation collection at
their Superbowl party again this year. We
also received another memorial donation in the name of Mrs. Barker.
In reviewing the monthly summary, Carol mentioned that the gas bill was
unusually high, likely due to the cold weather.
Carol has also purchased the stepping stones for the garden.
Carol will arrange for the installation. A replacement light fixture was purchased and installed over
the doorway by Bob, with Joe hanging onto the ladder! Carol is in the process of photo printing the photos for the
display case.
Our 2005 budget
was approved as modified.
Branch Manager’s report: The
Penny Jar Report
– None this month. Suggestion:
send a thank you to the Family Inn for its support.
Doug Holme & Cissy Merritt are the co-owners.
Carol will send the thank you.
Children’s
– Story times by Kirstin continue and are doing well.
* 3rd
Annual Green Eggs & Ham Read-off is the first week of March.
Family night Thursday, March 3rd 6:00 – 8:30.
Leigh Ann & Kirstin are organizing this event!!!
*MCA & Manchester
Library Annual Bunny Hop – March 26th 11:00 – 3:00 in the library
meeting room. Leigh Ann & Kirstin are organizing this event.
*Mr. Hugs the Valentine Bear
given away for Valentines Day. A 4 year old girl won the bear through a simple
drawing. Twelve & under 55 kids entered.
Recycle
– According to the state auditor KRL may recycle only KRL materials. SO
–what this means is that anything that I discard and give to the Friends of
the Library cannot be given back to KRL for recycling because public monies are
involved in paying for the recycling. I will be more careful in what I discard
~Carol will discuss book sale recycling with Rich and Gigi.
“Gifts”
– We are trying to police the donations to insure that the donations are
useable.
Donation
– From the family of Louise Mikelsen Barker:
5 new children’s books.
Facility
– Capital improvements this year provided by KRL – CD display & new
shelving behind the circulation desk. [The
“new” custom-made CD holder is too small. We have nearly 400 CDs assigned to
Manchester and there will doubtless be more.]
Cleaning –
Carpets looking better with the midweek spruce-up.
SRP Donation by the
Friends – Covers the books earned by
Manchester kids participating in the summer reading program.
MA has, in fact, given more than any other KRL library in support of the
summer children’s program.
Boating Class
– About a dozen people took advantage of the Boat Smart class offered by the
Power Squadron. **They lost the
key.
Adult Winter Reading
Coupons – So far three have been
redeemed at Mama Java’s
AARP & taxes
– In process [Contact is Mike Kaaland @ 871-3002]; currently offered at 3
locations in Port Orchard.
Fire Department Annual
Inspection – We passed J
Need annual inspection of fire extinguishers. Last inspected in 2003.
Joe will arrange to have the extinguishers inspected (Hank’s sheet
metal?). If replacement is
necessary, he is authorized to replace them.
We have 30 days to complete this task.
We also realized that the furnace filters are due for cleaning.
Bob is to arrange for this task.
Bookstore report: The Weixlers were out looking for snow, so we had no report.
Old Business: Action item reports were as follows:
* Leif of
KRL has yet to replace the chairs.
* Dee
still needs to follow-up on “chicken coop” bookmarks.
* Carol
has a draft agreement with the State entity pool on insurance.
* Carol
still needs
to set a meeting
date for auditing the books with Ron and Rich.
* PO Box
832 has been cancelled as the Friends mail box.
* Rebecca Guthrie has agreed to buy plants left from our
plant sale for the Long Lake group. They
will not accept any plants in coffee cans however.
* Norma has agreed to do the publicity for the plant sale,
and needs to clarify with Gigi how the book sale publicity will be coordinated.
* The Weixlers had no report on the status of the auctioned
trunk that Don Poulson had repurchased.
* Joe Kleitsch has offered dahlias for the plant sale and
will provide them in March.
* Bob/Joe got the entryway light replaced.
* Julie still needs to organize a Salmon Bake lessons
learned meeting.
* Helen reported the Salmon Bake prices will be $5 (kids
under 12yrs) and $10 (all others) this year.
Geoff Yahn will arrange for the salmon again this year, but will not
order as much as in the past. Carol
reminded us she still has 7 gallons of beans in storage.
The proposed slate of officers was elected to office unanimously.
Norma
reported that our annual Spring Book and Plant sale will be held on April 23rd
from 9AM-3PM. Norma is collecting
used egg cartons. All plant
donations will be accepted at the Library on Friday 4/22 or by 8AM on Saturday.
Norma will send a list of prospective donors to John Winslow so he can
email them for more plant donations. Carol
will explore whether she can get an additional sign for posting on Beach Dr. to
advertise the sale. Joyce mentioned
that the afghan she has been diligently knitting should be completed by the end
of March so it can be raffled.
New Business:
John Winslow said that
the MCC has a new web-site that will be updated regularly and they would be
happy to host the FOL information on the site.
However, to help off-set the cost of the web-site (~$120 to get going
this year), the MCC would be asking for a donation on the order of $20-25.
The group, with one exception, thought this was worth pursuing, with the
caveat that the MCC measure “hits” on the site to insure the expense was
worth the effort. John said he
would have a final specific cost at our next meeting.
This September
will be the 25th anniversary of our new building addition.
As a tribute, it has been suggested that we develop some kind of event to
honor the occasion and provide a staff appreciation event.
We’re looking for ideas. Joyce
offered to explore options for a staff appreciation event.
Our improvement plan for this year includes the replacement of the
linoleum in the meeting room and hallway. Joe
will contact Decorator One for suggestions on an appropriate commercial type
floor covering.
Carol mentioned that we had received an inquiry document from the IRS
asking whether we needed to file a form 990.
The 990 applies to non-profits with average gross incomes of >$25K.
We don not meet that criterion, so Carol will return the form responding
accordingly.
Next meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 23rd in
the Library.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
John Winslow, Secretary
