The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Winslow.

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

Correspondence: Thank you note from Dee (due back Friday); newsletter from Humanities Courier

Treasurer’s report: Moved some $ to the money market account; Dino delivered almost $50. Regular report to be delivered at August meeting

Penny jar: $17.20, total so far $1869.48. Some discussion of fanfare for the restaurant when the total reaches $2,000.

Branch Manager’s report: Attached. Bill reported that there will be a wine event and Gregg Olsen reading on October 11, at the wine shop in Port Orchard.

Bookstore report: Store sales are averaging about $500 a month; Norma has obtained another donation from her friend Ilga; the book sorting is being well kept up by the volunteers.

Newsletter: Next issue due early September; Carol will ask for articles closer to the deadline.

Facilities Manager report:  Mark and a plumber will repair the front faucet weekend of July 29, though that will not fix the low pressure there. The leak in the front sidewalk area may actually be groundwater seepage along a pipe gravel raceway. KRL is asking us to wait on the carpet replacement until they plan for rearrangement of functions. Carol suggested we consider funding building changes to accommodate library functions better, if KRL cannot fund it; if we could find a way to expand out we might gain some space that way. The KRL facilities person (Mary Louise Ott) is looking at options.

Gardens: Next weeding event August 10 at 9:30. Carol is watering periodically and has left the connector hoses in place, covered by rubber mats for safety.

Old Business:

1) Closed items from 6/27/07 meeting:  Donors added to recognition board; websites updated; certificates of appreciation bought and delivered; drawings given to KRL facilities person

2) KRL actions due to levy failure: not stamping book due dates, change procedures, cutting wherever possible, looking at ways to use existing collection most efficiently.

3) A sign has been posted at the front entrance showing the Friends’ cost to keep the building open

4) Gigi reports she is looking at any advance work for the next salmon bake, to avoid last minute flurry of activity; ordering t shirts and/or aprons ahead.

New Business:

1) 9/26/2007 will be the 60th anniversary of the Manchester library’s first opening; several ideas to celebrate that were discussed (history info, pictures display); Carol and Gigi will coordinate a “birthday party”, to include a history display for the month of September, cake and ice cream for patrons on the day and during the meeting that evening. $200 was approved for expenses. A bookmark was suggested, to have printed up and hand out to patrons; we will use the existing picture of the first function-specific building.

2) Rich and Gigi Weixler were recognized as Special Friends of the Manchester Library, for their many years of dedicated service, Gigi’s chairmanship of the salmon bake and past work as book store/sale manager, and Rich’s expertise as treasurer.

3) There was discussion of renting the FOML’s new canopies; discussion centered on their fragility, particularly in a wind, and on the difficulties of ensuring they return in good condition. In the end it was decided not to rent them out. Please save buckets to use as water-filled anchors for the canopies when they are used.

4) Mark will be asked to design a removable ramp for wheeling canopies and the chair dolly in and out of the new shed. Also, the front edge of the floor mat needs to be nailed down, perhaps with a metal strip, to keep moisture from getting under the mat.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm. Next meeting: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 7 to 8:15 pm in the library meeting room.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Campbell, Secretary
