The meeting was called to order at 6:59 pm by President Winslow

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

Correspondence: newsletter from E Brem FOL, letter from Fred Meyer Foundation (John will keep as a reminder to apply next year); quote from Navy City Metals (John will follow up); Ellen Newburg’s notes from her comments at the birthday party; annual bill for insurance from KRL.

Treasurer’s report: The wine tasting profit was $723, less a bill not received yet from Mark. A good event, enjoyed by all who attended; FOML thanks Dee for stepping in to organize it at the last minute, and the lesson learned is that each event needs a “manager”, responsible for making sure things get done.

Penny jar: No report

Branch Manager’s report: Attached. Ray will donate a can that fits 13 gallon bags, so the volunteers taking the recycling home will just have to grab the bag. If Ray does not have a can/basket the right size, FOML will purchase.

Bookstore report: The next sale is November 17; Carol passed around a sign up sheet. Discussion about having only four sales next year, since the September sale was disappointing, but it was agreed to try five sales for one more year. Carol has signed up on ALibris; there was discussion about getting a laptop, or finding some way to reduce the amount of work it takes to list and track books.

Newsletter: Next issue around 1 December; Norma to write a plant review, Dee will ask Leigh Ann if she could write up a library program craft event as an item. Bill Lounsbery has generously provided several book reviews; John will write a president’s report.

Facilities Manager report:  the west slope is cut and paid for; another ballast has burned out and Phil will replace it.

Gardens: The October 12 weeding party was not as well attended as we’d hoped, and not everything got done; Carol will meet with Jackie to see what must be done before winter, and possibly schedule one more short work party.

Old Business:

1) Closed items from 9/26/07 meeting:  Wine tasting held; Carol signed up on ALibris; carpet cleaning is scheduled

2) Office remodeling: Dee said two KRL managers have scheduled a meeting to talk about an office for her; there was discussion of our ownership of the building, and the split between “library” and “community” parts of the building, as well as capacities for each room changing if the wall structures change.

3) Ray provided a report (attached) of the WILL conference he attended, and gave a fine summary of the speakers’ points. He recommended we advocate a library staff member go next year.

4) We still do not have a plant sale manager; Norma and Carol are working on the sale’s early tasks. Ron volunteered for 2009.

5) The Village Commons group is meeting again, to try for a new library/community center.

6) Bill Lounsbery attended the KRL training session

New Business:

2008 events were set: Book sales: 2/9, 4/26, 6/15, 9/13, 11/15. Plant sale: 4/19. Salmon Bake 6/15. November meeting cancelled, December meeting on 12/3.

John asked for interest in officer positions, and for working on a nominating committee.

MCA asked for FOML support for decorating/lighting the library for Christmas. After considerable discussion, FOML will pay for electricity, and will store a reasonable amount of Christmas decorations. Dee will contact MCA about asking for $$ for what they want, and several individuals were willing to donate for that, including a retractable flag pole to serve as a “tree”.

Jim Stritzel has a 10x12 garden shed that needs to be moved, and he is willing to donate it to the FOML, if it can be moved. Likely someone else would buy it and the funds would come to FOML. He also has plants to be dug up for the plant sale (early spring).

Dave Hopkins was interested in contacting the designers of the library garden; Gigi will contact Jackie Kendall about it.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm. Next meeting: Wednesday, November 28, 2007 from 7 to 8:15 pm in the library meeting room.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Campbell, Secretary
