Downtown Design Committee

2/28/06 Update:

This group was originally called the "Revitalize Village Center" committee, but the current committee members have agreed that this name was not appropriate for the current goals of the group.  They have come up with a new name, and a new mission statement:

  •  Support a commercial village core that acts as a community center and maintains the small town charm and quaintness Manchester currently offers.

  •  Promote a cohesive design concept for the commercial sector that compliments the qualities of Manchester.

  •  Encourage commercial development that enhances the natural environment, protects the spectacular views and maintains the waterfront accessibility of the downtown core.

Original ideas for the "Revitalize Village Center" committee include:

  •  Historical information
  •  No mega houses
  •  Model after Winslow: stores, restaurants, sidewalks, upscale town, redevelopment, retirement area
  •  Bed & Breakfast
  •  Downtown theme
  •  Small town shops
  •  Specialty shops
  •  Reason(s) to come to Manchester
  •  Develop vacant lot at Colchester & Main
  •  Solid business base: insurance, beauty shop, coffee shop, art gallery, boat traffic
  •  The heart of the town; Post Office, general store
  •  Your neighborhood, a draw to town
  •  Good Feng Shui
  •  Utilize history of Manchester
  •  Sidewalks with lights
  •  Something for kids to do
  •  Pedestrian friendly
  •  Walking theme
  •  Common theme for building standards
