Partnering With Outside Agencies

5/23/06 Update:

Debby Trudeau reported that she has been meeting with the Village Commons Group to help with their efforts.  She has spoken with the County on the possible acquisition of park property in the area.  Debby learned that the County is not currently acquiring land for parks unless land is offered at no cost.  The County’s efforts are focused on developing the capital facilities plan.  The County is however looking for waterfront properties to enhance the trail system.  Further, the County is not interested in pursuing additional Community Centers due to staffing costs.  Debby mentioned that Seattle has a unique program in place that takes advantage of grant monies to support operation of their community centers and recreational activities.  Debby concluded that the group is considering the possibility of a Library taxing district and possibly relocating the Library and converting the existing facility into a Community Center.  These are all preliminary ideas, and have not been formalized with the multiple groups involved.
