Most of our time today was spent discussing the June 1st, Sunday, first Port of Manchester Commissioners User Survey.   It was very successful and was done on a very positive level throughout the day, no folks were upset by being asked to stop a few minutes and answer questions from the surveyors.    The boat launch area survey was in effect from 4AM to 5PM, the Pomeroy Park survey was from 10AM to 5PM.   It was a fun experience and lots of ideas and suggestions came in, we will be compiling the figures for you very shortly.  Joe Blazevich and Ray Pardo have offered to help compile the answers.   A big THANKS to those who came forward to help out:

Under the "comments" section of the survey, #one was PARKING, with early arrivals feeling it was adequate ( lot not filled up), while later arrivals had lots to say about the lack of adequate parking and some option ideas to correct the problem.  #two "comment" was the single rest room, the need for at least two stalls, more frequent cleaning of the restroom and even re-locating the present facility.  Lots of interest in improving Pomeroy Park with swings, wooden benches, etc.   Some changes in the questions were recommended and changes will be made prior to the next survey.  We are planning a survey for mid-July and again in mid-August, plus surveyors going out on their own with questionnaire sheets at times convenient to them when the park is full.     Another THANK YOU goes to Jim Rogers of Kitsap Public Works (and Ray Pardo for contacting Jim) for the traffic counters that were installed on May 30th at the junction of Main Street and Denniston Lane.  They were removed on June 2nd showing 220 entry's to the boat launch for the Friday to Saturday 24 hour period,   240 for the Saturday to Sunday 24 hour period, and 250 for the Sunday to Monday 24 hour period.  A good number of vehicles entering the boat launch area and an excellent resource for comparison with our volunteers efforts.

The end of the day was really exciting when all the sprinklers in the launch area lawns and in Pomeroy Park came on.    Lots of action as we moved around and tried to figure out which way the wind was blowing, or which one was coming on next.      If you would like to volunteer to help with the June or July survey please contact Wanda Larsen at bwlarsen@wavecale.com

Finally a serious safety matter is the number of dogs running loose in several areas.  These are large dogs with no leashes on California in particular, where Arlene Brennan was recently attacked by a large dog that came out of an open gate.    Some of the dogs have been apprehended, but there are more dogs that need to be contained.     We hope to get some news coverage on this problem to develop an awareness in the Community that relates to public safety.

The next Port of Manchester Commissioners meeting will be held on Monday, June 9th.  6:00 P.M. "     "NEW TIME",   Please plan to be there and hear about the newly updated Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan for the Port of Manchester.  The plan was last updated in 1996.   It is an excellent document with most of the changes made dealing with new wording or requirements of the law or RCW's.     The plan was approved.     There will also be discussion about the Manchester Port Advisory Committee, that is being arranged.  It will include volunteers from within the Port of Manchester boundary lines.
