6-17-08 MCP&PSG WEEKLY TUESDAY 6:45AM COFFEE & DISCUSSION, MANCHESTER FAMILY INN

Those in attendance this morning included Ron and Joyce Rada, Bob Edwards, Joe Blazevich, Bud and Wanda Larsen, Richard Dilworth, Paul Gilligan, Ray Pardo, and Peggy Warren.      Kitsap County Sheriff Office news releases were reviewed.  There were four community notifications of level III sex offenders residing in the Port Orchard area.   Also a sheriff's office and Central Kitsap School District join public announcement regarding inappropriate behavior in Silverdale Waterfront Park.

We discussed recent thefts of siphoned gasoline from two cars on Puget Drive, as well as a recent theft of a boat motor from the same area.    We urge everyone to keep an eye out, be aware at all times, and when you see or hear something out of the ordinary, please contact 911 and make a report.     Unless these issues are reported, they will continue.   Lets keep our Manchester community residents as safe as we can.     By looking out for our neighbors, we are also watching out for our own personal safety.      Other safety and security matters were discussed by the group.   Copy of a June 14th article on the anti-idling bill that was recently passed were reviewed and discussed.

We again discussed last week’s information on the fuel trucks taking a different route to the Manchester Fuel Depot.     Trucks again came through on Father's Day during the 40th Annual Manchester Friends of The Library Salmon Bake, from the Spokane area.     They took the correct route down Colchester, through Manchester, up to Beach Drive and on to the Fuel Farm.     Lots of honking and waving and they were interested in what was going on downtown in our very busy Village.

The Salmon Bake was once again a huge success in Fund Raising for the Friends of the Library.   All profit from the event goes toward the maintenance and upkeep of the Manchester Library.    In addition to the salmon bake, over 700 $1.00 cookies were sold at a profit.    The book sale that was conducted inside the Library was also a big success.    In addition, there were a number of significant donations to the Friends.     Over 30 Friends, were there as volunteers to help in setting up the event, working full shifts Noon to after 4PM in the foodline, handicapped parking, table cleanups, running errands, etc.    It was a wonderful time to be had by all.   Our group provided a small unmanned safety information table that also promoted Neighborhood Blockwatch in the Community.     Next year our group member Ray Pardo, will Chair the Salmon Bake.   He has a lot of ideas and is eagerly searching for the ideas of folks within the Community from various organizations.   This will help in putting together another Salmon Bake in 2009, definitely one of the special events of any year in Manchester.

Sheriff Boyer advised he had dropped by one our meetings last month when Bud and Wanda were on vacation.   We will be signing him up for a meeting in the very near future for our morning group.     Steve always brings us new and useful safety information that all of us can use.  We will look forward to having him with us again.  We hope that next year we will be able to get an assist on handicapped parking from the Sheriff's Office, or Citizens On Patrol (COP), it is definitely a two-man job to get all the cars in and out safely without a run-in with the heavy street traffic outside the Library parking lot.

It is time to start signing up volunteers to assist with the upcoming user survey's for the Port of Manchester Commissioners.   The next one will be held on July 12th, 4AM to 5PM at the Boat Launch, and 10AM to 5PM in Pomeroy Park.   The county will provide traffic counters for an accurate use report.    The second survey will be held on August 16th, 4AM to 5PM at the Boat Launch and 10AM to 5PM at Pomeroy Park.    The third and final survey will be held on September 13th, 4am TO 5pm at the Boat Launch, and 10AM to 5PM Pomeroy Park.    In addition, on any sunny day individual surveyors can spend and hour or so at the Park or the Launch on their own to reach as many visitors as possible, the forms are available by calling Wanda and (360) 769-8793.     For the original survey we had 16 volunteers and they did an incredible job.  Results of the original survey will be forthcoming very soon.    We already know from the original survey, that only a small minority of visitors are from the Manchester area.   Parking is the main concern on the forms, with more restrooms following as a close second.    Improvements were outlined by a number of folks.   All these facts and figures will be reported when available and we appreciate all the hard work everyone has provided for the special study.

At our next meeting on Tuesday, June 24th, our special guest will be Rance McIntyre, manager of the Animal Control facility.     There have been some pretty serious reports on dangerous dog activity in several areas of the Community.    If you have had problems, let us know about it.   Rance will be able to give us some advice on how to defuse dangerous situations, etc.     Mark you calendar NOW and plan to be there on the 24th.
