Attending today's meeting were Bud Larsen, Joe Blazevich, Sr., Bob Edwards, Kerri Desjardin, Wanda Larsen, Ron and Joyce Rada, Richard Dillworth, and Bob Lamb.

A sheriff's Dept. News Release regarding the death of a pilot in the crash of a rotary-wind aircraft was discussed.     Additional information on the accident will be forth coming.

The main topic of conversation this morning related to the Saturday, 8-16-08 Port of Manchester User Survey.    A busy and enjoyable day in the sunshine for surveyors at the launch area and Pomeroy Park.    Traffic counters installed by Kitsap County Public Works (thank you Jim Rogers) showed 541 for Friday/Saturday east bound traffic and 614 for Saturday/Sunday east bound traffic.     There were 73 launch surveys completed and 37 Pomeroy Park surveys completed.    Total numbers to follow when the survey forms have been tabulated.    Once again the survey's showed that over two-thirds of the visitors came from outside the Manchester boundary lines.     Also, the prime concerns related to parking and bathroom facilities.    The final survey for the Summer series will be conducted on Saturday, September 13th.    One of our survey helpers was Commissioner Steve Pederson, who thoroughly enjoyed meeting with facility visitors and having an opportunity to talk with them.

Wanda reported that we have heard from Washington State Parks and they will be unable to assist us with finding a fee box for voluntary contributions at the launch area.  We will be researching other options for obtaining a safe and sturdy locking device through GSA  in Auburn as soon as we have contact information.    We are checking with health officials on the availability of plastic bags for animal refuse to use in the launch and park area at specified locations.    Bud reported that Alan Fletcher has the ADA rulings on railings for the handicapped area around the restroom and will be making the necessary adjustments.

NOTICE:    Friend's of The Manchester Library are looking for nominations for "Special Friend of the Quarter".   Please send your nominations to Friends President, Eric Cisney at ecisney@earthlink.net .

Next meeting of the Port Advisory Committee will be this Thursday 8-21-08, 5:30PM at the Manchester Library.   Our guest will be Kitsap County Assessor Jim Avery who will discuss funding options for the Port of Manchester, etc.   The group will also be discussing the possibility of a KIOSK for the launch/park area to display important signage such as one we the Port has been provided with from Washington State Fish & Wildlife, another pertaining to Rules & Regulations for the site, and other safety and/or informational signs.     The advisory meetings are open to anyone who is interested in the Community and the Port.

Next week, Tuesday, August 26th, our guest will be Dana Coggon Kitsap County Noxious Weed Program Coordinator.     Dana can advise us on how to handle noxious weeds, as well as how to identify them.  Plan to be there and if you have questions about a weed in the neighborhood or in your yard, bring a sample for Dana to look at.
