Awesome
Sponsor!
Lots
of people stopped by the Platinum
Dining Card
booth and took advantage of the 2-for-1 deal that Sherry
Barnhart was offering (buy the 2005 book and get a free
upgrade for the 2006 book) - you couldn't beat the deal!
And the MCA was the beneficiary of the proceeds - Sherry
split her sales with us and donated $115! Thank you Sherry for your generosity! If
any of you need a fundraiser, keep the Platinum Dining
Card in mind! You can reach Sherry at: Washington
State Fundraisers

The
Manchester Community Council, Port of Manchester, and Port
Orchard Independent present:
Manchester Clean-Up
Day
Manchester’s Community Council is
initiating an event it calls “Manchester Clean-Up Day” on
Saturday October 8, 2005. The
event, co-sponsored with the Port of Manchester, and the Port
Orchard Independent, will take place in the parking lot next to
the Manchester Library from 9AM until 2PM on that day.
Coordinating groups and participants in the event are
Kitsap Solid Waste, the Friends of the Manchester Library, and
the Manchester Community Association.
The goal of the day’s activities is to give local
residents an easy way to properly dispose of some of the excess
items they may have around the house.
The “Clean-Up” will include trash
pick-up by volunteers along several of the arterials leading
into Manchester, mild hazardous waste pick-up of Ni-Cad
(rechargeable) batteries and fluorescent light bulbs,
advertising for local Manchester garage sales held on that day,
used clothing donations, used book donations, information booths
on composting/ Kitsap’s 2Good2Toss/Clean Kitsap, a Bake Sale,
and refreshments.
Come to the Library Parking lot on Saturday
October 8 from 9-2 to find out what it’s all about!
For more information contact John Winslow at 206-524-0176
(days) or email to johnwinslo@aol.com
(see the Clean-Up
Day section on this website for more details and a
participation form for the Community Garage Sale).
Specific activities:
- Adopt-A-Road:
Kitsap has just initiated a roadside clean-up program which
we will be implementing in Manchester.
Several volunteers will be picking up trash along
roads leading into Manchester to help demonstrate pride in
our little village. This
event is coordinated by Debby Trudeau; if you would like to
help, contact Debby at 871-6114.
- Mild
hazardous waste pick-up: The MCC will have a truck in the
Library lot that will be accepting up to ten Ni-Cad
batteries and ten fluorescent light bulbs for disposal at
the Kitsap MWR facility near the Bremerton Airport.
- Manchester-wide
garage sales: For a donation of $5, the MCC will include
your address on our listing of all garage sales held that
day in the local area.
The list will be posted as addresses are added and
the final list will be made available at the Library parking
lot beginning at 9AM on the 8th.
This will be a great opportunity for those who just
can’t miss a great bargain!
To sign up to be on the list of garage sales, contact
Bob or Rash Ballard at 360-871-2700.
- Clean,
gently used clothing will be accepted in the lot for
donation to Helpline, St. Vincent’s, and/or Goodwill.
- Used
books will be accepted in the parking lot by the Friends of
the Manchester Library for re-sale in the bookstore at the
Library. You
may not know that the Friends donations pay for the building
where our Library is housed, and keep the Library’s door
open!
- Kitsap’s
Solid Waste Division will have an information booth on their
2Good2Toss and Clean Kitsap programs.
- Our
own local Master Composters will also have an information
booth and will be there to answer any questions you have on
composting.
- Refreshments/Bake
Sale: Just to say thanks for your participation, we’ll
have complimentary cookies and beverages available to all
participants in the parking lot.
Thanks to the MCA for handling the refreshments!
The MCC/MCA will also hold a Bake Sale to help offset
some of the cost of the event as well.
Several local volunteers have decided that
it's time to officially record Manchester's colorful history.
A meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 20th to get this
project underway. If you're interested in getting
involved in the Manchester Historical Society, plan on
attending their first meeting on September 20th at 7:00pm in the
Manchester Library meeting room. For further information,
contact info@manchesterwa.org.
Coming this Fall... In October the Library will have
Halloween events... in November there will be an Inquiring
Minds speaker... and in December there will be two
programs for making gifts - one for kids and one for
adults. Stay tuned for details!

Go Figure Is Still Going
Strong
As you may have heard the building where Go
Figure! is located may be sold and Go Figure!
may have to relocate. The timeline for this
is unclear at this time. The process to move ahead
with the development of the property could possibly
take a year or two. Go Figure! has a lease for our
current space until December 31, 2006 and we expect to
stay through the end of our lease. If and when Go
Figure! has to move we will move as close as possible
to our current location. If we have to move more than 7
miles from our current location customers in their initial
annual contract period will have the option of ending
their membership, with 30 days written notice, unless the
new location is closer to where they currently
reside.
Please note our new expanded hours:
M-F 6:00am - 11:30am and 3:00pm - 7:00pm Saturday 7:00am -
10:30am

The 2nd Annual Ride Around Puget Sound took place on August
27-28. It is a 165 mile bicycle
ride with approximately 9,000 feet of elevation gain.
There is either a two-day or one-day ride option. The ride
starts and ends in Tacoma, circling the lower Puget Sound
region. There were 380
riders over the 165 mile course, with a rest stop at Pomeroy
Park. They loved the Manchester waterfront and views.
Next year it will be the last weekend in August.
All proceeds are donated to the Bicycle
Alliance of Washington (BAW), which raises money
and awards grants for all sorts of great bike safety,
transportation and school programs, including the SAFE ROUTES TO
SCHOOLS program.
