Boating Class

The Manchester Community Council, in cooperation with the Friends of the Manchester Library are presenting a Boating Class at the Library on Saturday October 14th from 8AM – 5PM.  This class offers the training that will become mandatory for all operators of boats powered with motors of 15 horsepower and more who are 20 years old, or younger.  The State has a phased implementation of this training, and in future years older boaters will also be required to pass the test and carry a license.  For more information on this, go to  www.parks.wa.gov/boatsafefaq.asp

The record of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary stands for itself. Our goal is to make the waters safer for all boaters. Our next “America's Boating Course” program will be held at the Manchester Library.  Join us to learn the basics of boating safety. The materials fee for the course is $35.00 per person.

This program meets the National Association of State Boating Law Administration’s mandatory educational requirements.

Many insurance companies offer marine insurance discounts to participants completing boating safety programs. Check with your insurance carrier for additional information. Reserve your space now by contacting Charles Huff at (360) 340-3445 or chuff2@advancedhvac.com.

Happy Anniversary to the MANCHESTER GALLERY

A letter from Paul Nuchims, Director...

What have I learned?
Humans are pretty much the same everywhere?

Yes, but what about ART?
In Kitsap, Mason, and north Pierce counties, there is a happy, ignorance about the history of art among artists and the general population, no matter their level of education, class or wealth. Their interest is in relatively narrow concerns about technique and fame.  Occasionally someone needs to fill a space on a wall with a framed watercolor or print. Profit wasn't the motive.

So what was your purpose?

It seems my purpose is interaction with people about art and life. I'm on a quest which generally speaking is about the melding of two ideas: the purpose (how and why) of the visual arts in our culture, and the future of humans, as a species. So far, keys seem to be visual metaphor, culture, and how we see reality.
Artists that seem to be key: The ancient Greeks, da Vinci, Escher, Magritte, Dali and Duchamp.
Other influences: The sciences of physics, chemistry, biology and anthropology.

How about your classes?
I love the openness of children and some adults, as long as they're not
looking for some 'formula' for making 'great' or 'saleable' art.

How about the exhibitions?
     The '
View' certainly was successful in bringing people to the gallery. Competition is quiet but ego-involved among amateur artists. One-person shows not as much interest, though I'm hopeful about the exhibition and Reception for Dee Molenaar: 5 to 8 PM, Friday, Sept. 15, and talk: 6:30 PM.  Exhibition to continue from Friday 9/15/06 to Wednesday, 10/13/06.

The Manchester Gallery will close for the year, November 22.   Hours: Daily, noon to 6. Sat & Sun: 11-4.

Thanks,
Paul

KITSAP GREETER SERVICE

The Kitsap Greeter Service is an organization that provides a Welcome Packet to new residents of Kitsap County, which includes coupons from local merchants, many informative brochures and a free area map.

The good folks at Kitsap Greeter Service have generously agreed to allow our organizations to include a flyer in the Welcome Packets that they produce for new residents of Port Orchard.

We have been working on a draft of this flyer, which has been linked here so people can review it and provide input on it's content and design.

Click here to see the flyer, and then please feel free to provide your feedback by using our "Contact Us" page.

Thanks for your input, and many thanks to Beth at Kitsap Greeters for working with us on this!

Do you have a business in Manchester that you would like to see included here?  Forward your "upcoming events" to us at info@manchesterwa.org and we'd be happy to post them here!
